Objectives
- To introduce the basic acting tools: body, voice, and imagination.
- To encourage teamwork.
- To use script work to explore story structure, enhance comprehension, and foster fluency.
- To create a safe environment for the students to learn, take risks, express themselves, and share their own work.
Missouri Learning Standards
- Recognize the effects of life changes or events related to self and others. (DOK Level 1 C.a.)
- Identify similarities and differences between self and others. (DOK Level 2 B.a.)
- Identify elements of a story, including setting, character, and key events. (K.R.2.A.a)
- Explain the actions of a character and the reasons for those actions. (1.R.2.A.e)
- Identify characters, setting, acts, and scenes in plays. (2.R.2.C.a)
- Identify the elements of dialogue and use them in informal plays. (2.R.2.C.b)
Kansas Learning Standards
- Read on-level text with purpose and understanding (RF.1.4, RF.2.4, RF.3.4)
- Recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central message, lesson, or moral. (RL.2.2)
- Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events. (RL.3.3)
- Acknowledge differences in the points of view of characters, including by speaking in a different voice for each character when reading dialogue aloud. (RL.2.6)
- Recognize and develop a respect for individual similarities and differences. (II.B.1)
